MLS News: Wizards To Get New Home ?

They will not be breaking ground tomorrow but this is great news for Wizards fans and MLS. Perhaps as soon as 2010.
If the project is approved, the Kansas City Wizards will play in a state-of- the-art stadium that will anchor the development. The soccer complex, which consists of the Wizards stadium, 12 tournament-style soccer fields and a 250- room hotel, will cost $140 million and is slated to open in spring 2010 as part of Phase 1 of the three-phase project.

MLS News: DC Loses Out On Veron

What could have been the biggest DP signing of the off season seems to no more. News broke yesterday on some sites that this was a done deal and had many DC United fans dreaming of how Veron would fit in the first eleven. Now it appears Veron has had second thoughts and will not be headed to the Nations Capital. Veron stated,"My teammates' request for me to stay was very important. And I couldn't ignore the fans' affection."
This would have kept DC on the top of many peoples list of favorites for the 2008 season. It would not surprise me to see United target and sign perhaps even a bigger name. Or perhaps they will choose to use this money on the rumored to leave Christian Gomez.

Crew Newz: US U-23 Draw With China 0-0

Robbie Rogers & Tim Ward both came off the bench in this warm up for the CONCACAF Men's Under-23 Championship to be held from March 11-23, 2008 in various US cities.

Ward came on in the 88th minute replacing Charlie Davies while Rogers came on for Stuart Holden in the 72nd minute. The US were called for 16 fouls vs Chinas 5 in front of 30,000 at Helong Stadium. Appears like the home team got a couple of calls their way.

Crew Newz: Sigi Chat Transcript

http://www.mlsnet.com/t102/fans/chat/2007/schmid/

When asked about the possible departure of Schelotto, "With Schelotto, everything is moving forward. Our expectations are that he is returning and will be able to tie up all the loose ends. Our plans are, and everything we're planning for right now, is with him being on our team and being part of our squad for 2008. " He did not go as far as to confirm Schelotto is returning but it is certainly better then other answers he could have given.

Over all Sigi handled himself well and was pretty informative on a few topics. Check it out.

MLS News: Boswell to Dynamo

The MLS Champs strengthen their back line. http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20071212&content_id=132751&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp

DC Uniteds 2006 MLS Defender of the year is off to Houston. While Dynamo back up GK , Zach Wells, lands in DC.

With rumors of Troy Perkins heading to Europe their will more then likely be another keeper headed into DC sometime before training camp begins. With other players coming into DC this offseason, Vernon (DP) and perhaps another "big name" South American player, I can't see the defending Supporter Shiled winners laying their hope in the hands of Wells. He has some National team experience but other then spot duty in Houston and a half season with the Metro Stars in 2005 he unproven in MLS.

I thnk this is a great trade for Houston. This could be the steal of 2008 if Boswell regains his 2006 form.

MLS Rumor: Pablo Mastroeni On The Move?

For a club that had a difficult time scoring goals last season, 2nd worst in MLS with 29, this could be a good opportunity to get some offensive help. However, losing the biggest name and best player on the roster will be hard for most supporters to swallow.

The Rapids who still have a unused DP slot should be looking to spend cash instead of dealing Pablo for help. Mastroeni was about the only thing worth watching last season for the Rapids. He is the type of player every MLS club is looking for . Why are they looking to trade him? Possibly a DP player coming in and they feel they don't need Mastroeni's name power any longer?

Pablo to San Jose? Makes Sense.

Pablo to LA Galaxy? They would find a spot for him.

Pablo to Columbus? Perhaps for Eddie Gaven, just speculating.

More to come on this one.

Crew Newz: Eddie Gaven Replaced on U-23 Squad

News from a few weeks ago but this should be a little alarming.

Eddie has been replaced by Aaron Holbein, KC Wizards, on the US Mens U-23 Squad coached by Peter Nowak. Wonder what Sigi Schmid is thinking as he has been wanting to see a consistent Gaven, as we all have, but that has yet to be seen in Columbus. This could have been a great opportunity for him on a national level and create some positive form heading into 2008.

This upcoming 2008 is a make or break season for Eddie or was that last season?. Anyway,if he does not find a regular spot in the first 11 by the end of May I would look for Columbus to off load him.
